Please Respect The Right Of Others To Disagree
I started this blog because I, and others, felt that certain issues about I-SS needed to be discussed and that there was information that needed to be shared. Even as Dr. Holliday leaves for Kentucky, I believe that the process needs to continue and I plan on being a part of that process. I am glad that this blog has given people on both sides of these issues a chance to speak out. I thank each of you for your comments. I take the time to read and consider all the comments, even the ones from individuals who do not agree with me. It is only with true discourse that we will find a resolution to these issues. I am asking everyone to please respect the right of each person to state his or her opinion. Do continue to leave your comments, but please do so without criticizing those persons with whom you disagree. I will do the same.

Thanks Paul for making that statement. You and I usually disagree but we have always kept our posts civil. My main purpose for posting is to fend off the stereotyping and clumping of all things "Holliday" as bad. Also, some people take what others tell them about the school system as gospel. One persons reality in one school might not be the same as someone elses. As your blog has grown and more people have entered I have felt as though the tone has gone from discussing the facts to attacking and name calling. I have seen this from both sides and I hope that your post helps to control that. It is almost as though some people are taking personal offense to the fact that not everyone agrees with their point of view. Thanks again and hopefully things will get back to a more professional dialogue.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with both of you. Only thru coming together to discuss issues can solutions be found. I hope that all will feel welcome to come to our citzens meetings and have open, honest dialog without name calling and anger. If we all truly care about the children of Iredell County, we should be able to find solutions together that all parties will be happy with.
ReplyDeleteComing together can only occur if both sides are willing to listen. This has not been the case over the past seven years. I think a lot of pent up frustration----frustration at not being able to speak about serious concerns---is finally being released here. It is unfortunate that this is the case; concerned parties should have felt free to voice their opinions openly.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that the only path to better days is through civilized discourse. Now we'll have to see whether the BoE fulfills its obligation thoughtfully, and hires an individual who is interested in honest dialogue, someone who respects the viewpoints of those who may disagree.
Civilized people can disagree. It is just that speaking out and asking questions or having issues has long been denied to some people(teahers and staff), and those that have been allowed to do as they please in talking cannot understand what that freedom means to those that can finally speak. We are happy to have some democracy back. We only beg to diasgree nicely but we do want that right. Thanks to Paul. I don't like it when others aren't polite, but we have had three IFS and it always had to be their way. No questions and no choices. Just sit, listen to the agenda, and comply.
ReplyDeleteI misspelled teachers. So sorry.
ReplyDeleteIt is so exciting to have a safe outlet after all these years but it's becoming obvious that we all need to slow down and CAREFULLY read all the posts before reacting to a partial statement.
ReplyDeleteAgree with above comment, it's a good idea to read and think thoroughly before posting. Try to pretend that the person is standing in front of you, most would choose their words more carefully in a face-to-face situation.
ReplyDeleteIn a face to face situation with a bully or a dictator, one cannot open his or her mouth out of fear. That is why lots of people will sign it anonymous and write how they truly feel.
ReplyDeleteHello, My Name is Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteI am writing to support the above post. I have been severly disciplined by Dr. Holliday during a face-to face attempt to stop my transfer. " I have the power to move you anywhere I want to." He also kept checking his watch. He didn't want to run over the allotted time he had allowed to me. " What about my workers's comp claims?" I said. "Can't help you there." he replied. He stood up and showed me the door. It took 7 weeks for NCAE to even call me back. The rest is now history. Have I been made whole? NO! One cannot open her mouth out of fear.
I am so sorry that happened to you because that could happen to anyone of us. It is very wrong, because we are all professional people and that scene should not happen. I know that you must have felt lost and sad, angry and very upset. I hope the BOE sees this and makes sure that this time they hire a superintendent with respect for all and not just a few.
ReplyDeleteAmen
