The Iredell-Statesville Schools Board of Education tonight at a specially called meeting named Brady Johnson the interim superintendent of the school district beginning August 5. Johnson‘s selection comes following Friday’s announcement that current superintendent Dr. Terry Holliday will be leaving the district to become the commissioner of public education for the Commonwealth of Kentucky .
“On behalf of the entire board of education, I can say that we are confident that we made the right decision for Iredell-Statesville Schools,” said board chairman Dr. David Cash. “The board’s priority was selecting someone that would continue to move our school district forward as we begin the important job of choosing a permanent replacement for Dr. Holliday. Brady is certainly well-suited to ensure that our schools continue to build on their current levels of success.”
The board of education will begin advertising for Holliday’s position immediately, although no specific deadline has been set for announcing a replacement.

great decision
ReplyDeleteMr. Johnson at least has history in Iredell County beyond the Holliday regime. I have never heard him called anything but a gentleman and considering the other bad choices, the Board of Education made a good decision for an interim. Let's all encourage the BOE to make the right choice for a permanent replacement for Holliday----someone who is dedicated to the children of Iredell County and not their own personal agenda or resume.
ReplyDeleteI highly support and praise the decision of the school board to appoint Brady Johnson as the interim superintendent. I know Mr. Johnson personally and professionally. He is a true gentleman who does care about our students. I am happy that he will lead our schools. Mr. Johnson will do an excellent job.
ReplyDeleteMr. Brady Johnson is a wonderful choice. He is a teacher and a parent person. He is an Iredell person who will support our students. He is a great choice. Thank you , BOE.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that Mr. Johnson is an excellent choice at this time. He has a long history in our school system and is not interested in going anywhere else. Great job school board.
ReplyDeleteBrady seems to be a very nice individual. Hope he has what is takes to stand up to those who would try to keep the gestapo-type operation alive in I-SS. There really needs to be, at minimum a moratorium on Baldrige...
ReplyDeleteHis sister-in-law (his wife's sister) is principal of Central Elementary , so he'll have to tread lightly there.
Let's all hope for the best. I-SS needs to get back to putting children first, and not just give lip service...genuinely this time
Thank you, BOE! As a teacher and product of the ISS school system, I know Mr. Johnson from his days of teaching and see him as fair and trustworthy. Hopefully, this is the start of a new and sunny year in the ISS schools.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if he is interested in the job full-time?
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to ask Brady if he reads this blog...it's a good place to get a real idea of what those who've been afraid to speak are really thinking.
ReplyDeleteWe can all hope that the dark days are coming to an end, and that whoever is selected as permanent superintendent will TRULY have an open door, and open air policy.
I, too, am delighted that Brady Johnson has been named interim superintendent. He is absolutely the person we need right now. For the first time that I can remember, the school board actually did something right!
ReplyDeleteI mentioned in a previous post that Brady always seemed to be one of the good guys at the Central Office. I have heard nothing but praise from others and my dealings with him were always pleasant.
ReplyDeleteThere were several times that he returned calls to me at 8:00 at night because he was still trying to get done for the day. He seems to be dedicated to doing his part instead of passing the buck to someone else.
I spent last week at Scout camp. One of the boys was telling me how he had been in alot of trouble over the years, even to the point of being tossed out of his school and then out of Monticello alternate school. He said Brady bent over backwards trying to help him remain in the system so he could graduate. That boy is now doing better and that is partly due to the fact that Brady cared.
He had previously been at East Iredell Middle where the school score and convenience comes first. I can bring out a whole bunch of people to describe the atmosphere at EIM. The upper administration there does not care about the children or making a difference. (Fact)
I think Brady would bring back the old style of administration where people matter again. Hopefully he would want the position and would be given the position full time.
I am truly excited that Mr. Johnson will be our Interm. The BOE finally made a great decision. As a community, teachers, parents, and citizens of Iredell we need to support him and continue to pray for our education system.
ReplyDeleteI just wish he would say to principals. "Let your teachers decide how they can help and improve the learning situations for our students, and only do a PDSA if you want to, not because it is dictated." Please Mr. Johnson, let your classroom teachers show what we can really do.
ReplyDeleteJuly 23, 2009 4:03pm....As wonderful as that sounds (believe me, I'm with you!), I'm fearing that won't happen...already "hearing" (per today's Statesville Record and Landmark editorial) that we'll "continue on the course set by Dr. Holliday until the school board advises otherwise." He'll(meaning Dr. Holliday) be with us for a long time, it seems.
ReplyDeleteHolliday leaves the fourth of August. Perhaps Brady Johnson needs to get out a survey to the classroom teachers and see what they really need and want. The teachers need a survey that is trusted, and that they can feel free to tell the truth on.
ReplyDeleteIf Transylvania did away with it(Baldrige)or gave its teachers a choice on using what they wanted to, we can, too.
When the time comes to vote again, then it is time for the teachers and parents to unite. What we really need is a new BOE.
We ,also, need Paul to find out exactly how much money has been spent in the last 7 years on this Baldrige program. This needs to be published where it can be seen by all, and I expect to see outrage in our community.
As for the Record and Landmark, everyone can stop your subscription ,and then ,let them live off their editorials. Enough is enough. It is time to stand up for what is right. We may have a hard road to plow, but united we can do it.
It is my understanding that when Holliday left Transylvania County that Baldrige left with him. Teachers were told that they could use the system if they wanted. Some used parts of Baldrige which makes sense since everything has some good points.
ReplyDeleteI think it is important to give teachers the freedom to use whichever methods work for them and their students. Everyone has a different style that is effective for them. The only measure that matters is the results that the teachers have to show at the end of each marking period.
July 23, 2009 6:56 PM... there is no outrage anymore. The general public only cares enough to complain but not enough to demand change. Even the majority of the people who are willing to take a public stand are too concerned about offending someone. If the economy keeps getting worse and gets as bad as I think it is going to, people will have less tolerance for stupidity and will be more direct in demanding change. Talk to most of the people who went through the depression and you will find that they say what needs to be said.
As for the Record and Landmark... it is a major waste of .75. It gets thinner everyday. The real news is old news and the rest is feel good articles that carters to minorities and those who are currently in power whether they be right or wrong.
Of coure the Record and Landmark would not buck Holliday. Certainly not as long as the ISS school system is one of their biggest subscribers. We had 22 copies delivered to our classroom of every issue. That is one school and one classroom. Talk about buying the press. Perhaps if they (R & L) lost their biggest client then they might print the real news regarding ISS. We have equiped most classrooms with adequate numbers of computers through our technology push. It is now time to save money and let our students receive their news via the computer just as many of us do regularly, hence the fall of newspapers.
ReplyDeleteJuly 24, 2009 8:09 AM said... "We had 22 copies delivered to our classroom of every issue. That is one school and one classroom".
ReplyDeleteThat explains alot. The next financial request needs to be for a record of how much was paid to the Refuse & Landfill last year. No wonder they are biased in reporting school issues.
They are having so much trouble selling them to the public that they give them away outside BiLo and Foodlion all the time. It seems to really hurt the guys feelings when I won't even take one for free.
To all readers and especially July 23,6:56PM:
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your comments, especially your statement that we need a new school board. Why can't we get them all recalled and have a new election? I personally think they have all violated the policies of the board and their constituents.
