In a previous post I mentioned two videos of Dr. Holliday presenting at the 2009 Quest for Excellence conference. It was suggested in one of the comments that I include the videos in this blog so you don't have to go to another blog to see them. So, I have included them here for your amusement. Just don't wake the babies with your laughter.

In the first video, Dr. Holliday's responses are located at about 2:33, 8:11, 12:19, 15:17 and 23:37 into the video.

  1. I have watched the 2nd video. I have never seen Holliday speak this candidly before. I imagine it depends upon the audience you are addressing such as the BOE or David Bradley and the Statesville Chamber of Commerce. At about 19:45 to 20:00, Holliday starts talking about fear and relationships. I would like to see a survey given to ISS teachers regarding their attitude about those comments. There is great fear in the I/S system and I don't believe central office has established great relationships with their teachers. I remember seeing a system wide email from Holliday about six years ago that stated that teachers did not organize well. It seemed to be a very strange comment. However, six years later, I have been on the Baldrige journey to learn how to organize. While there are some good tools, I have found the journey to be full of pot holes.

  2. I have checked the strategic points of the first video. I think I am now in need of my lithium treatment(reference to the pro-B blog). I have learned that Brenda Clarke is our local god and that Baldrige is for kids (funny - I thought Trix was for Kids!)

  3. Hilarious! He really missed his calling as a comedian. He should note that some
of the same "San Diego School Board" members, including the current chairman, are still around to support him just as they supported Dr. Coleman; gullible, naive, whatever they are.
He should look at where Dr. Coleman is today! (Might as well take a look at Jesse Register, written up in Reader's Digest, that bastion of literary science, and Joe Sinclair). It is so obvious that Holliday's only interest is in selling Baldrige!! Does he think he is royal? Why does he refer to himself as "we?" He will be fine in 10 years, just like the others. But where will the children of ISS be?

  4. I didn't get to watch the whole thing. I saw enough. As part of his introduction he tore apart the last administration for misconduct including the use of a county credit card at Disneyland. What did that have to do with him, the present, the future or our children?

He stated that cell phones were a good learning tool. What?

Also, when he stepped into the job teachers didn't trust the central office. And that has changed how?

  5. I think that it is funny that he thinks that teachers resist Baldrige because he wants the students engaged in their learning. The teachers that I worked with and have spoken with, resist the time wasted collecting and discussing all the data. That is their answer to low performance. Test more and post more data. Not spend more time actually teaching. They seem to think that students are capable of learning 9 weeks of material in only 6.

  6. What a joke! His team????? He is so clueless. What ever he ends up doing, he had better have a day job.

  7. Coffee, cookies, about all we can afford.
Please, save your money, pack your bags, and take your crystal with you. You have insulted every single citizen in EarDell County.
The NCAE was bought out. I will never be a member of NCAE again as long as this man remains in power.

  8. Another key point from the link you provided in regards to the Kentucky blog. They list any and all articles that they could find on Holliday. One in particular stands out: We The Residents Of The Iredell Statesville School District
    Target:
    Dr. Holliday, Iredell-Statesville School District,PO Box 911,549 N. Race St.,Statesville, N.C.28677
    Sponsored by:
Residents of the ISS School District

This is a petition that the residents of Lake Norman area (as Holliday puts it in one of his articles "the haves") started in respond to the redistricting of lines. They contend that they paid more for their houses to be in "Lake school district" and wanted Holliday to reimburse them for the overage they paid on their houses if their children had to go to another school. Funny how Holliday dropped the redistricting when they started to organize. Maybe that's what it will take for him to wake up now. I urge people to do a little digging and I am sure they will be ready to act.

  9. Where is the pro-B blog. I can't wait to read it!

  10. Does anyone find his comment about the "little teacher network" insulting? I surely do and really didn't like the way he made us out to be whiners and blamers. I have taught for over 20 years and have not known many teachers that felt it was okay for their students not to learn and often spent many outside hours trying to find ways to make learning meaningul to their students. I felt very insulted by his remarks.

  11. I also like the way he talked about getting out and visiting the schools and classrooms. Well we only saw him when there was a problem.

  12. Several years back, I sat in a faculty meeting and heard this man say... " if you don't want to follow the lead of Baldridge, maybe you need to find a job elsewhere," Well, I took his advice, moved on and couldn't be happier. Thank you Doc.
Holliday for giving me the best advice in my career.

  13. Dr. Coleman cared about the children. I will believe this until my dying day.

  14. There is no pro-B blog. I will have to do like the R&L and make a correction. I was actually referring to (Fed-Up) who was making an unkind comment to the creator of this blog. I meant to say pro-B (Baldrige) blogger.

  15. "Off Your Rocker" and "Dying Day," we appreciate the fact that you are reading and responding!! It's obvious from his public remarks that Dr. Holliday is right there with you. But sorry, he's no Michael Jackson!!

  16. Apologies. Above post should not have included "Dying Day."

  17. If Baldridge is so great, then why isn't it part of the curriculum for a degree in teaching? Every teacher I ever spoke with had never heard of Baldridge prior to teaching in ISS. They don't like it mostly because of the time it takes but I think mostly because they have no say in any of it. Take SIT and SIP (school improvement team and school improvement plan) if you aren't on that team, when it comes to voting time you are simply obligated to vote for whatever is put in front of you. You have many teachers with masters degrees yet they are not empowered to do anything. I am sure that Baldridge was never meant to be dictoral. They know it simply would not be effective if delivered in that manner. Because of the way Baldridge is handled in ISS many make up the data just to get it done and to conform and be in compliance when the Baldridge Nazis come into their room with a clipboard, never speaking to check and make sure it is being done. That is not effective and Doc has his head in the sand if he thinks that is progress.

  18. You are correct. I know of many teachers who try to do the real work and just simply post things so those with the whiteboard will come in and check it off on their list and include it in the data.

  19. As long as there is no real communication, there will be no real collaboration. In an atmosphere of fear, no reality ever sees the light of day. If you're a teacher and you're talking, you'd better be nodding and repeating the company line, or Doc and Baldrige Inc. will make you wish you had.
