  1. Thank you for this blog! I am a TA hired last year and also one that received "the letter" monday that if no money is found I will be cut. I spent 25 years in the business industry and had never seen so much fluff at the top of management and so few reserves for the people who ultimately tow the line. I also have two children in the system and I am glad that I have had the opportunity to see what really happens. All of this is taking away from the children. With no summer school and no money, we were an integrel part of remediation. I am worried if they cut TA's how will the students with gaps get the remediation they so desperately need? Please continue the good work that you are doing. I also find it disturbing what you had to go thru to get public information and the fact that they tried to put the blame on you regarding the so called cost of collecting the data.

  2. Check out a company named QPI Qualifying Profiles Inc. It is owned by Mr. Bill Brater's wife, Linda. Mr. Brater sits on the board of education for Iredell Statesville. ISS has been using them to perform background checks on anyone who wishes to attend an overnite trip with their children. I brought this to the attention of local media for them to investigate as to how much the school system was paying QPI Inc. No one ever contacted me back, however I noticed that at one of the last board meetings, a vote was taken to now open up the bidding for that contract. I would love to know how much ISS paid QPI prior to now for those background checks. Just another example of the cronyism that goes on. This is all public information found in a few minutes online yet no one challenges them.
