Destruction of School Equipment

A former I-SS teacher with direct knowledge of these incidents has given me the following information. The teacher has asked me not to use his or her name.

Back in 2005-2006, the administrator in charge threw thousands of dollars worth of materials away at South Iredell High School. The administrator supposedly justified these actions by saying, if it’s not being used or can’t be used immediately, then it is to be thrown away. In all, some $4000.00 worth of display cases, aquariums and other equipment were thrown in the dumpster.

Then this summer, the same administrator took two science-equipped classrooms and turned both rooms into one suite of rooms for Health Occupations. In the process he had the built-in teacher science demonstration table/desk at the front of each room cut up and thrown away. Today’s value on these items is about $4000.00 each. So, now $8,000 dollars worth of top quality furniture has been destroyed. These items, if you were to purchase them today, are not anywhere near the quality of the ones that were destroyed, so the value may actually be even greater.

This teacher went on to say, “I don’t understand why such waste is allowed to happen in such a financially tight economy. So, if I know about $12,000 in materials being destroyed and thrown away, it makes me wonder how much is being thrown away that I don’t know about. This just bothers me greatly and it seems that I have no power to stop it. Believe me I have tried to make a difference and it seems to go in one ear and right out the other, and nothing changes.”

I also have to wonder why this equipment was not moved to another classroom at South Iredell High School, offered to another school, or sold as surplus equipment. I-SS has a procedure for the disposition of surplus equipment. Was Kenny Miller, I-SS Executive Director of Facilities and Planning, asked to examine these items before they were thrown in the dumpster? Or is this just another example of I-SS not making the best use of our tax dollars?

  1. Hmmmm.. The Administrator from 2005-2006 @ South High is the very same one of now?

    And it's a male?

Must be an administrator down there that I don't know of then, because the Administrator who governs that campus started in 06-07.

Surely your credible source is only mistaken and not just trying to tell stories.

There is a children's story about the boy(or girl) who cried wolf.

  2. Mr. Klaene, this blog is beginning to resemble a witch hunt. You're really dredging up ridiculous stuff from the past. Are you running for school board or what? You're so obviously just trying to find things wrong.

  3. Witch Hunt: It's also called "accountability," a popular Baldrige term, when applied to classroom teachers.

  4. When you give information that has been disputed and then give no response it is a witch hunt. Who was the administrator? What response do you have for the post made on August 29, 2009 6:37 PM? Back it up or shut it up.

  5. Blame an IF...you always do!

  6. You don't even know who I am so how do you know who I always blame? Sounds to me like somebody has their emotional hat on today. Sure is a lot of tears and woe is me on this site! I think someone needs to see what their 5 year old is doing on the computer!

  8. I'm 6:37 and I'm still waiting for a response. I would love to know if you have thought to go back and ask this source if they were sure or maybe mistaken.

  9. 6:37: Do you have an alternate explanation for the disappearance of this equipment? Can't help but wonder about your interest in this post, as you seem to be the only one who cares.

  10. There are two people asking about the validity of this. I am one and I don't know who the other is. I made the post on September 1, 2009 8:12 AM
I have nothing to do with South Iredell and don't know anyone there. My interest is in getting facts. If it happened it needs to be addressed. If it didn't it shouldn't be said. Klaene you need to prove what happened or remove the statement. Being posted in the manner it was only causes problems and adds to the comments about you running a rumor mill.

  11. Ah, but what a lucrative rumor mill. Obviously you are one who is responding.

  12. 12:27 - I have an interest in truth. I want to know if the person who made the accusations can back them up. Because...as I stated before; the "administrator" @ SIHS (I read Principal = administrator) in 05-06 is not the same one that is there now, and to quote the original post:

"Then this summer, the same administrator took two science-equipped classrooms and turned both rooms into one suite of rooms for Health Occupations."

Can't possibly be the same administrator unless there is a male @ SIHS that I'm not aware of.

If the "facts" are false accusations, then I want it known. There is enough BS on the rumor mill in I-SS now as it is, we don't need more. In my honest opinion, a large percentage of the unrest both in the community and in the school system itself amongst the staff/faculty comes from false accusations and malicious rumors designed to do nothing more than what they are doing...make the masses angry to suit the needs of the person who started the rumor.

Our focus as a school system and the community should be the children, not he said/she said BS.

  13. Where would this Blog be without the rumors and BS?

  14. I am attempting to get some additional information. I will post an update when I have more to report.

    ReplyDelete
  15. attempting to get some additional information is that the 2009 definition for fabrication?

    ReplyDelete
  16. September 8, 2009 11:14AM: Is there any reason you should be obnoxious? Is there anything to gain from that? Please explain BS. Don't know what that means.

  17. I am the poster who originally questioned this entry (not the Sept 8 poster as Mr. Klaene well knows, if he can see IP entries), but I am checking to see if there is an update on that additional information?

And before any of you who will ask why I am asking and why the interest, please see my above post about truth, honesty, and BS.

If there is no additional information that you are able to get, Mr. Klaene, or if you have indeed done the investigating and found that the accusations are without merrit, can you see what posting something so quickly without doing the proper checking does? Yes, it is unfortunate that people do lie, and stretch the truth, but it does happen, and again, unfortunately, it happens a good bit when they think they have a simpathetic ear.

  18. I have been informed that the administrator responsible for the destruction of the science demonstration desks and other equipment mentioned is Mr. David Dixon, the current principal.

    ReplyDelete
  19. David Dixon didn't start until July of 2006..

  20. I have now been informed that the equipment mentioned in the original post as having been destroyed back in 2005-2006 was actually destroyed in August of 2006. So I guess that would make it the 2006-2007 school year.

Sept. 12, 4:34 PM - As I have mentioned before, I do not see the IP addresses of people who leave comments. Therefore, if a person posts anonymously, it is anonymous to me as well.

  21. Sorry...and again, I am the original person questioning the dates...convenient the dates changed when presented with the argument.
