Central Office Reorganization

According to the agenda for the upcoming meeting of the I-SS Committee of the Whole, Mr. Johnson will be presenting a Central Office Reorganization Plan to the School Board. The meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 7th.

The agenda is available on the I-SS web site but it does not give any information regarding what might be included in the reorganization plan. I doubt that there will be any trimming of the administrative excess since many of the administrators have just had their contracts renewed or extended and apparently they are hiring a couple of new administrators. Maybe they are just going to shift personnel between the Race Street and ADR offices.

  1. Due to budget, at the end of last year some were given notices that unless more funding became available they would not be hired back to work. Lean year, well it surely wasn't lean when the decision was made to give increases in salary to the top 5 or 6 administrators. It is understandable that Mr. Johnson becoming superintendent needed an increase. How can we expect the county commissioners to give more money to ISS when the message was sent that we had money to give raises.?

  2. This district is looking at cutting more teacher positions yet keep Marty Moore, Jed Stus, Brenda Clark, AND her girlfriend, etc.??? FOR WHAT???? Their salaries could save quite a few teaching positions, right????

  3. Firing teachers, making class sizes larger, and creating new CO positions. Seriously, I would hope they can sleep at night, but I'm too busy literally wondering where I will sleep next year. My family is out of work, I honestly have no options.

I wonder how the new CO will raise test scores, I know I did. I wonder how CO will prepare children for their future, I know I did.

  4. Paul, please post the top 25 positions with salary increases from 2008 to May 2010. This will be the second year with no increase for teachers so it'll be interesting to know increases at the admin level. THANKS!!!

  5. I know it must be difficult for the county commissioners to support the school system when salaries are increased at the admin level. I can't believe that Ellis, Taylor, Schiffman, Hargrave, etc. make $10,000 or more a month. That is beyond my thoughts. What would a person do with $10,000 a month especially when their spouse also makes a salary. Dale Ellis created a job for his wife in the technology department. How does these things happen??? Why doesn't someone ask questions???

  6. Some things never change! I have been gone from ISS for 2 years. I have no regrets. I am teaching and happy.

  7. If June 3, 2010 10:49PM's info is correct, it would not be hard to check out. I had been told by a person that applied for the tech job that they only had 2 openings and they filled those 2 openings - then about a week later it was announced at school that Ellis would no longer be the media specialist since she had a job with the technology department.

  8. This is a post to Mr. Harwell at Cloverleaf but he has not responded.
In talking with another parent I find that my child who is in Mrs. Waugh's class has done very little with technology this year. They have not done research in the media center, they do not go to the computer lab to create projects such as Photostory. If Cloverleaf is a tech school, why are the teachers NOT using technology with the students. I'm sure Mrs. Waugh isn't the only teacher who does nothing with technology.

  9. Don't you think it would be better to ask the teacher maybe by calling or an email instead of a blog post?

  11. I agree with June 6, 2010 10:53 PM however one can't help but wonder why the principal hasn't addressed this, in a technology school you would expect all teachers to be creative with technology.

  12. June 7, 4:03 PM: This response is too late for tonight's meeting but yes the public may attend the Committee of the Whole meetings. However, the public is not allowed to comment or ask questions at the Committee of the Whole meetings. The public is allowed to make comments or ask questions during the public comment section of the regular Board meetings. In addition, the general policy of the Board is not to respond to public comments or questions during the Board meeting and unfortunately they may not respond at all.
