January Personnel Report

As reported in today’s Statesville Record and Landmark, it was announced at Monday’s I-SS Board meeting that Todd Holden has been promoted to Executive Director of Secondary Education and Career Technical Education. Mr. Holden has been principal of West Iredell High for the last four years. There was no mention of what his new salary will be. I wish Mr. Holden the best in his new position. Todd Holden Named Director

It was also announced at Monday’s Board meeting that the interim positions created when Mr. Johnson was named Interim Superintendent are now officially permanent positions. Specifically, the personnel report approved by the Board states the following.

Ron Hargrave goes from Interim Deputy Superintendent/Race Street to Deputy Superintendent/Race Street.

Melanie Taylor goes from Interim Assoc. Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction/ADR to Assoc. Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction/ADR.

Dale Ellis goes from Interim Assoc. Superintendent for Secondary Curriculum/ADR to Assoc. Superintendent for Human Resources/Race Street.

Bill Long goes from Interim Assoc. Superintendent for Human Resources/Race Street to Director of Teacher Support Services/Race Street.

As I mentioned in a comment to a previous post, Dawn Creason sent me an e-mail on January 4th stating that Dale Ellis and Bill Long had gone back to their previous positions and salaries. Obviously this was not a true statement with regard to Mr. Long. As far as I can tell the Director of Teacher Support Services is a new Central Office position created for Mr. Long. Again we see that there is no shortage of money when it comes to Central Office positions. How sad it is for the students at Statesville High School and Third Creek Elementary who have to share media specialists because there is no money to hire a replacement for the media specialist at Third Creek who has recently retired.

  1. Not a new position. He was always in HR. Sounds like a change in title to more accurately reflect that he does more than just recruiting. Of course, you have the old org charts and know that.

  2. Bill Long's position is not new; just a new name but the job (and pay) are the same.

  3. Paul, seriously, do you not have anything else to do? You are spreading false information for the purpose of stirring the pot...planning another failed run @ the BOE this Spring, perhaps?

Bill Long's original position was in HR...but since there is no recruiting to take place, unless Twinkle Toes in Raleigh can come up with some money, his position has been renamed to (as a previous poster stated) more accurately reflect what he would be doing. You were there during the Board Meeting, you know this..yet you continue to maliciously spread false information. I hope that one day, someone you take aim at takes issue with your coniving ways and presses suit against you for maligning their character.

As far as there being "no shortage of money" for Central Office positions..I call a big old pile of BS on that one. There are people working at our Central Office who work for far less than you or anybody else who whines on here would. I'm not talking just Directors I am talking your average Joe employee. Would love to see you or one of your fellow whiners take on some of the duties these fine people are asked to assume and do it for the wages they do their jobs for. You are a bully, Paul Klaene, and as you well know, the district has a no tolerance policy on bullying in the schools. Can't expect the fine people of Iredell County to vote a bully in on the BoE, can we?

I have looked at the old I-SS Organizational Charts that I have and I did not see the position of Director of Teacher Support Services listed. There was a Director of Support Services a number of years ago but not for the last several years. Most recently Mr. Long was Interim Associate Superintendent for Human Resources and before that he was he was Director of Recruitment and Retention. Therefore, if as Director of Teacher Support Services he is doing the same job he has been doing, then either he wasn’t doing what he was hired to do, or this new position is not needed since Dale Ellis is back to the position of Assoc. Superintendent for Human Resources.

Yes I was at the Board Meeting and there was no mention of Mr. Long’s new position at the meeting. I had to ask for a copy of the Personnel Report in order to learn of the details of the shift in administrative positions. The details of the personnel report are not presented to the public at the Committee of the Whole meetings or at the regular Board meetings even though it is a public record.

I am sure that most of the support staff at the Central Office work hard for not much money. The problem is that there is an abundance of Administrators working at the Central office who are paid very well for their services. And because of that, there is less money for programs that directly support the students.

As far as the accusation that I am a bully, I am simply trying to share information and ask questions. A bully would hide information and prohibit questions. Also, a bully would only allow ‘approved comments’ to be posted as Dr. Holliday did on his blog when he was superintendent.

  5. Seriously, you still have to throw out Holliday's name. You are obsessed!

  6. All you have talked about lately is Dale Ellis and Bill Long moving back to their previous positions and salaries. They did that. Bill is back to the Director level in HR. All you have talked about lately has happened and you still find fault with it. That shows that no matter what this system does you will find fault with it and not like it. Don't know why the system even tries.

  7. Bottom line...WAY too high a percentage of I-SS education funds go to the I-SS CO

  8. No money for hiring assistants to replace others who have left. We continue to keep IFs who do not work in a classroom. Why??

  9. No money to reduce class size either...

Those at the top take care of themselves and to *#!! with I-SS students

You are what makes this system work in spite of the central office administrators! You come across as caring and realistic--something no one can claim that the CO admins is!

My hat is off to all three of you!

  11. Opps! Should read ...CO admins are.
    Sorry!

  12. I think Paul does a valuable service for citizens in Iredell. I-SS is using the PUBLIC's money and we have a right to hold them accountable for being good stewards. One thing I would love to see Paul investigate are the perks that go along with those big salaries. Yes, it isn't just the salaries that are questionable. What about the free cars? Some people at CO get free cars - and that means free car insurance, free tags, free oil changes, etc. It's quite a perk if it means one doesn't have to purchase a second car. What other perks are there? Also, Paul - you might investigate why the lion's share of these perks go to the good old boys. Why don't women get these cars? Isn't that discrimination based on sex? Just a thought - but it is definitely a topic that needs to be questioned.

  13. Better talk to the state department . They are the ones who allot the money. There are pots of money for teachers and staff. The central office staff is allotted their money ,too. This is the way the world works. It comes from the state.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Not true, February 5, 2010 12:39 PM ~

the state pays a base - a certain salary for all positions...most, if not all of the upper admins' salaries are much higher than what the state pays. Which means Iredell County tax payers are picking up the tab for the amount above the state rate of pay.

    ReplyDelete
  15. It doesn't matter who picks up the tab...I-SS CO Admins are all a bunch of low-down, dirty crooks!! As far as Todd Holden getting that promotion. What a joke!!! The ONLY reason he got that job was because of his VERY CLOSE friendship with none other than Mr. Dale Ellis himself!!! There were WAY more qualified people interviewed for that position. Goes to show you how this district REALLY works!! Anyone surprised??
